Lacoste turns a points multiplier into a weekend deadline
Lacoste Members Week: Earn 3× Points Before It's Over
Step by step
- 1
The subject pairs the benefit ("3× Points") with an end ("Before It's Over").
- 2
The body headline is "Triple your points this weekend", with "Earn 3× points on every purchase through October 5th".
- 3
The copy links points to "your path to new Loyalty tiers, exclusive rewards, and member-only benefits". No progress bar or points balance was visible in the capture we reviewed.
The psychology
Why it nudges
Lacoste uses urgency: the multiplier only runs until a named date, so members who were planning a purchase have a reason to make it now. We haven't tagged it goal gradient: the email mentions tiers but doesn't show a member's progress towards one. Results are not public.

Context
A premium fashion brand emailing members of its loyalty club. A members-only week is likely meant to pull purchases forward and make the programme feel worth joining.
Honest nudge or dark pattern?
Conditional
Honest nudge if Members Week runs when it says it does and isn't extended again and again. See deceptive.design/fake-urgency.
Steal this, honestly
- Tie loyalty boosts to a short, named window (a weekend, a date), not an open-ended offer.
- Put the end date in the body in plain words, not just "limited time".
- If you have the data, add each member's points balance and distance to the next tier. That turns it into a goal-gradient email too.
What to test: Generic "3× points" vs a personalised "X points to your next tier" version. Measure purchase rate in the window and in the 30 days after.
Next: run it on your product

Take the steps above into your own flow. The prompt carries this teardown, the honest-vs-dark line and the steps.
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor open with the prompt filled in (it is also copied, in case the prefill doesn't load). Gemini and Codex don't support prefilled links, so the prompt is copied and the app opens; paste it in.
