HubSpot shows Starter at $7 against $20, for a limited time

Step by step
- 1
Banner: "Save up to 65% on Starter… New customers only. Select offers available for a limited time."
- 2
Starter: "Starts at $7/mo/seat" shown with "$20/mo/seat".
- 3
Professional: "Starts at $800/mo" next to "$890/mo"; annual flagged "BEST VALUE".
Prices quoted in dollars ($), exactly as shown on the page we captured. Prices vary by region and change over time.
The psychology
Why it nudges
HubSpot uses reference prices: the higher figure beside each price frames the lower one as a saving. The 'limited time' line has no end date, so we don't count it as urgency; it's a flag. Results are not public.

Honest nudge or dark pattern?
Grey area
Watch the line: an undated 'limited time' offer drifts towards fake urgency, and struck-through prices must be real list prices. See deceptive.design/fake-urgency.
Steal this, honestly
- If you show a reference price, make it one customers actually paid.
- Put an end date on any 'limited time' claim.
- Say who the offer is for (here, new customers only).
What to test: Price with vs without the reference figure. Measure Starter purchases and churn at month 3.
Next: run it on your product
Apply this with your agent
Take the steps above into your own flow. The prompt carries this teardown, the honest-vs-dark line and the steps.
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor open with the prompt filled in (it is also copied, in case the prefill doesn't load). Gemini and Codex don't support prefilled links, so the prompt is copied and the app opens; paste it in.
