DELTA's welcome email leads with 100,000 customers
Your 20% off welcome offer
Step by step
- 1
"Welcome to Delta! The most loved THC seltzer." with a "Get 20% off" button.
- 2
A band reads "Loved by over 100,000 happy customers" with five stars.
- 3
A welcome code, "WELCOME20", is set out in its own block.
The psychology
Why it nudges
DELTA uses social proof: a large customer count ("Loved by over 100,000 happy customers") is meant to reassure new subscribers who haven't tried the product. The sign-up discount is an incentive, not a gift. We haven't been able to source the 100,000 figure; it's DELTA's own claim. Results are not public.

Context
A drinks brand's first email to new subscribers, likely triggered by a signup form.
Honest nudge or dark pattern?
Conditional
Honest nudge only if "Loved by over 100,000" and "most loved" can be substantiated; otherwise it's fake social proof. DELTA sells a THC product, so age-gating applies. See deceptive.design/fake-social-proof.
Steal this, honestly
- Put one specific proof number in the welcome email, near the offer.
- Make the code easy to copy and also apply it with the button.
- Keep the welcome to one offer and one action.
What to test: Welcome email with vs without the proof band. Measure first-order rate within 14 days.
Next: run it on your product
Apply this with your agent
Take the steps above into your own flow. The prompt carries this teardown, the honest-vs-dark line and the steps.
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor open with the prompt filled in (it is also copied, in case the prefill doesn't load). Gemini and Codex don't support prefilled links, so the prompt is copied and the app opens; paste it in.
