Perplexity stacks "LIMITED TIME" bonus credits on top of annual-billed prices
Step by step
- 1Incentive
Each paid plan carries a "+US$40 free Computer credits LIMITED TIME" (Pro) or "+US$450" (Max) badge, with no end date on the card.
- 2Price & attribute framing
Pro is shown as "US$17 /month when billed annually"; Max as "US$167 /month when billed annually".
- 3Social proof
The Pro card is tagged "Popular".
Prices quoted in dollars ($), exactly as shown on the page we captured. Prices vary by region and change over time.
The psychology
Why it nudges
A "limited time" bonus adds urgency without a stated deadline. Showing the monthly equivalent of an annual bill makes the headline number smaller (price framing). The "Popular" tag is a social-proof cue. Whether these lift upgrades for Perplexity is not public.

Honest nudge or dark pattern?
Grey area
Grey area: "LIMITED TIME" with no end date shown can read as false urgency. The annual billing basis is stated next to the price. See deceptive.design/fake-urgency.
Steal this, honestly
- If an offer is limited, say until when.
- Show the billed amount next to the per-month equivalent.
- Define what "Popular" means.
What to test: Bonus with a dated deadline vs undated "limited time". Measure upgrades and refund requests.
Next: run it on your product

Take the steps above into your own flow. The prompt carries this teardown, the honest-vs-dark line and the steps.
ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Cursor open with the prompt filled in (it is also copied, in case the prefill doesn't load). Gemini and Codex don't support prefilled links, so the prompt is copied and the app opens; paste it in.
